The 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo brought with it the introduction of the famous PIctograms to depict the different sports. These simple depictions are brilliant in their delivery of a lot of information, especially when you have to convey information to athletes from 206 countries! There is beauty, harmony, and of course, simplicity in their design. The pictograms take the minimum shapes needed to convey the message and deliver it in a fun and lighthearted way.
From a design perspective; icons, colors, and pictograms are some of the best and simplest ways to convey visual information to groups of people especially when they don’t share a common language or use the same characters in their language.
Of course, this concept would have been refined in Japan! #olympics #tokyo2020 #tokyo #design #lean
